Place your bets September 9

FanDuel has announced the official launch of its Iowa sportbook app and online platform. Its digital betting go-live date is set for Wednesday, September 9, two days before the Kansas City Chiefs host the NFL Kickoff Game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.

Through FanDuel, Iowans can bet on an array of professional sports. These include team games like baseball, basketball, football, and soccer, as well as individual match-ups in golf, MMA, tennis, and more.

Iowa residents and visitors can sign up for the FanDuel sportsbook via mobile Android and iOS platforms or online through its website.

FanDuel announced its touchdown in the Hawkeye State on Thursday with a tweet:

First go to a Diamond Jo

Because of Iowa regulations, online bettors have to complete their registration process at a brick-and-mortar establishment before they can place a wager. Iowans only need to undergo the in-person registration until January 1, 2021, at which time the state will scrap this requirement.

directing Iowa sports bettors to Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque or Northwood

FanDuel is directing Iowa sports bettors to Boyd Gaming-owned Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque or Northwood, where they’ll be able to activate their accounts for online sports betting in time for the NFL curtain-raiser.

Diamond Jo Casino’s website says its FanDuel Sportsbook includes single bets, spreads, over/unders, and parlays.

“Whatever the bet, you’ll probably find it. But there’s only one place you’ll find FanDuel – in Diamond Jo Casino,” the site states.

It also said that betting windows were now open and winning tickets could be cashed during normal casino hours.

In August 2019, Iowa became the first US state to successfully launch both retail and mobile sportsbooks on the same day. However, unlike most states, Iowa leaves it up to individual counties to decide what forms of gambling are allowed.

Seventh heaven

The Iowa launch delivers a seventh state to the FanDuel and Boyd Gaming partnership, which includes sports wagering outlets in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Indiana, West Virginia, and Illinois.

In the Land of Lincoln, the FanDuel-Boyd Gaming combo is keeping an eye on the clock. Having submitted mobile sports betting paperwork to the Illinois Gaming Board on August 19, Boyd’s Par-A-Dice Casino is hoping for the Board’s rubber stamp before the NFL begins on September 11.

FanDuel has enjoyed something of a hot streak this summer. In June, it became the first sportsbook to partner with an NFL team when it signed a multi-year deal with the Denver Broncos. On August 4, FanDuel reached an agreement with International Game Technology (IGT), which allows FanDuel to use IGT’s PlaySports platform to power its US retail sportsbooks up until September 2024.
