Bally’s Corporation subsidiary Bally Bet has run afoul of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) for falling asleep on its self-gambling ban safeguards, as the state gaming regulator hitting the sportsbook with a $5,000 fine at a meeting with the licensee in Waterloo.

The Bally Bet employee responsible for clicking download to receive Iowa’s self-gambling ban list every week must be looking for a hole to hide in for the outsized attention placed on the sportsbook for not following through with the task.

downloading the ban list was a once-a-week requirement

IRGC Administrator Brian Ohorilko said in the Thursday meeting with Bally Bet that downloading the ban list was a once-a-week requirement.

Ohorilko, however, said Bally Bet “was ten days late” downloading the list, which is against Iowa gambling law. He added that the relatively paltry penalty was in line with Bally Bet’s good behavior over the past year, having only erred like this once over the past 365 days.

Ohoriklo added the penalty would be more severe if the online sportsbook commits a similar mistake “within the next 365 days.”
