Virgin Hotels Las Vegas workers wants a new contract with their employer, and they have downed tools over the past three days in aid of that goal.

Workers picketed the Las Vegas casino from Friday to Sunday. They are seeking a pay raise and benefits which would align with the new pacts signed by other resorts last year. The new deals came after strike action by other members of the Culinary Union, which represents around 60,000 casino, hotel, and hospitality workers in Nevada.

No talks are scheduled between the management and striking employees

The casino-hotel, which is located near to the Las Vegas Strip, has remained open despite the picketing. No talks are scheduled between the management and striking employees as of yet.

The strike comes just one week before the second edition of the Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix, set to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators to the area. It’s a similar strategy the Culinary members that secured contracts with strike action just before last year’s edition of the race. This included employees of the Bellagio, Paris Las Vegas, MGM Grand, and Caesars Palace.

Virgin management have accused the Culinary Union of refusing to allow “meaningful negotiations” and demanding too much from the contracts. Virgin deemed the requested deal “economically unsustainable.”
